Types of Custom Clothing Labels For Designers

Custom Clothing Labels

As a designer in the competitive clothing industry, labelling your clothes is a crucial factor. Cloth labelling ranges from information such as the material of the cloth, the price and the washing precautions etc. Clothing labels are therefore not just a means of information but also for brand promotion and enforcement. However, before considering what kind of information to pass to the buyer, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of the different types of clothing labels and which one works best for your products. The different kinds of labels have their own specific features with their applications.

Custom Woven Clothing Labels

Woven labels are made from weaving loom, which takes about a day or two to weave before being transferred to the cut and fold machine. The custom clothing labels are normally sewn onto the neck seam, the side/bottom of a garment or attached to woven hang tags. They are preferred due to the luxurious impression they create for garments. The three types of custom woven clothing labels are Damask, Satin and Taffeta.

Damask Custom Clothing Labels

This type of clothing labels takes the longest time to weave because of the refined tight trim finish. The Damask type of labels are used widely because of their soft-subtle texture and recommended for high-end garments. The slower loom speed with fine yarns as well as higher weave density allows detail, clarity and colour separation and they are well recommended if you want to add a complex logo or artwork.

Taffeta Clothing Labels

This basic woven label is produced with a plain weave ground using a very tight weave structure that produces a cost-effective but stable and durable label. They carry reasonably detailed designs and texts and are preferred for designers using bold images and texts. These type of labels are cheap and are commonly used for care instruction.

Satin Custom Clothing Labels

This type of customised clothing labels creates a balance between the detailed design created by Damask and the functionality of Taffeta clothing labels. They offer softer colours and a smooth, shiny, lustrous appearance. They are perceived as materials for the rich and therefore used in prestigious applications and infant garments because of their softness.

Custom Printed Clothing Labels

Another alternative of clothing labels is the Custom clothing labels which is printed with information using ink, plates or thermal prints. Printing using plates normally takes around two to three days to finish whereas thermal printing is faster. However, its quality is known to be quite low. The tags are normally attached inside the neck or the lower side seam.

Heat Press Clothing labels

The heat press labels are printed directly on the clothing to reducing friction. These are commonly used in sportswear and t-shirts to reduce the friction created between the labels and the skin. On the downside however, the colour on the labels comes off easily over a period of time.

In addition, after deciding the right clothing labels for your products, there are a few guidelines to consider: the logo and brand name, color and size. You should consider using contrasting colors for your labels such as white on black, black on red etc. The size of the label should determine the amount of information to ensure clarity. Finally, always remember that the role of the labels is to provide sufficient garment information and brand visibility.
